On the structure of linear systems
Abstract
The structural properties of linear, time invariant, discrete, and continuous time systems are investigated in the presence of perturbations of arbitrary magnitude in the system parameters and also in the presence of changes in the structure of the input and/or output sets. Parametric perturbations that have no effect on system input-output behavior are considered. A new relationship is established between this class of perturbations and the system state space in a way that sheds new insights into the intrinsic nature of controllability and observability.
