Approximations for the amplitude distribution and density of shot processes
Abstract
Shot processes are very useful models for noises found in a variety of engineering applications. However, the problem of detection of signal in shot noise has remained largely unsolved because of the lack of convenient expressions for the noise density and distribution, except in a few special cases. Three methods for approximating the noise density are considered and their accuracy by comparing the approximate density with the exact one in several cases of interest is demonstrated.
