Problems and possibilities concerning a hybrid national communications and television satellite for Iran
Abstract
A satellite system for Iran is to supplement the existing radio link system of about 18,000 km. The satellite system is to provide communications services to remote locations, including the 65,000 villages of Iran. A direct transmission of television programs is to be made possible. About 500 television transmitters would be needed to assure the transmission of television programs to the entire country, if no satellite system were used. The selection of a suitable launching vehicle for the satellite is considered along with details concerning the frequency and performance of the transponder for direct television transmission, questions of satellite stabilization, and an appropriate device for the direct reception of television programs.
