Stretch FET amp design beyond octave bandwidths
Abstract
The importance of sound engineering judgement in the design of broadband low-noise GaAs FET amplifiers for electronic warfare systems is emphasized. Delineation of design goals and judicious selection of microstrip materials are stressed. The value of computer-aided design, as with the COMPACT gradient optimization program, is reiterated, and steps in computer-aided design are outlined, but use of a programmable pocket calculator for some intermediate steps is considered feasible and is discussed. Noise measurements, and synthesis of series or parallel networks, are also dealt with.
