Thin film EL displays
Abstract
Characteristics and applications of a new 3-layer thin film electroluminescent (TFEL) display device are presented. Brightness-voltage characteristics, hysteresis behavior of the brightness-voltage variation under square wave excitation, photopolarization and photorelaxation effects, and polarization persistence of the TFEL device in the dark are discussed. The performance of an experimental X-Y matrix TFEL display panel with 48 mm x 36 mm picture size, for TV display, is studied and illustrated, and applications to alphanumerical character display and graphic display are mentioned. The TFEL device features an EL active layer sandwiched between two identical insulating layers (transparent conductive In2O3 electrode deposited on plane glass substrate plus some insulating layers, metal Al electrode, and protective coating).
