Local and integral parameters of swirling flow in a long tube
Abstract
Currently available analytical, numerical, and experimental data are insufficient to formulate precisely the basic local and integral properties of swirling flow, for use in engineering calculations. To fill this gap, the present study was carried out with the aim of studying the transformation of local and integral swirling-flow parameters in a long cylindrical duct over a wide range of initial swirl intensities. In addition, the boundary layer characteristics were determined, along with the damping of initial swirl and its transition to axial flow. An attempt was made to generalize the experimental data on the basis of a universal swirl parameter.
