A numerical analysis of high power laser propagation in magnetized plasmas
Abstract
A computer program capable of modeling the interaction of a CO2 laser beam with a cylindrical plasma having an embedded magnetic field was developed. The computer code was employed to study the role of variations in laser intensity on bleaching wave propagation; ion heating was found to have an important effect on the bleaching wave process. In addition, experimentally obtained plots of total electron temperature rise in a CO2 laser heated plasma were compared to results from the computer program. Good agreement was found.
