A Study of Low-energy Cosmic Ray Nuclei (1-8 MeV/ nucl) Outside Earth's Magnetosphere on Prognoz 4 Spacecraft
Abstract
The paper describes the operation of a silicon surface-barrier telescope designed to record the spectra of protons, alpha particles and heavy and light nuclei in the low energy range. The detector was installed on Prognoz 4 and used to measure fluxes of nuclei, outside the earth magnetosphere, in the solar cosmic ray flux. Energy spectra were obtained for periods of maximum intensity of solar protons and for quieter periods.
