Diagnosis of protons of solar flares from accompanying electromagnetic radiation.
Abstract
The information content of parameters that characterize electromagnetic radiation from solar flares is studied. A response function is obtained which distinguishes flares accompanied by high-energy proton injection from flares not accompanied by such injection. A regression equation is derived for predicting the integrated proton flux at energies in excess of 60 MeV. The results obtained indicate that the characteristics of solar X-ray emission are the most informative for the diagnostics of high-energy solar-cosmic-ray protons.
