Graviinertial frames of reference in spaces with pure radiation
Abstract
A method is outlined for constructing graviinertial frames of reference in spaces filled with pure plane-wave gravitational radiation. This method is based on Penrose's (1963) conformal space-inversion technique. Bondi's (1957) solution describing a packet of plane gravitational waves is treated as an example. The results indicate that the Penrose inversion permits the problem of plane gravitational waves to be reformulated in such a way that the wave sources are concentrated in a bounded central region of space and the radiated waves transform into plane waves only at spatial infinity.
