Numerical analysis of small practical feed elements in a ground plane
Abstract
A new approach, based on the method of moments and the geometrical theory of diffraction, is proposed for the numerical analysis of circular-waveguide feed elements in a ground plane. A finite wall thickness and a protrusion of the horn from the ground plane are taken into account. It is found that for flange diameters of 4 lambda and 6 lambda, the proposed technique for predicting the radiation pattern of an open-ended waveguide mounted in a ground plane from results calculated for a finite flange seems to work quite well.
