The effect of constant phase shift on the operation of an electrooptical modulator
Abstract
The effects of constant phase shift, associated with anisotropy and polarization characteristics of the crystal used, on the parameters of electrooptical modulators are examined in a theoretical analysis. Modulator photoresponse voltage is studied as a function of the amplitude of the modulating voltage for modulators with KH2PO4 and with LiNbO3 crystals, at the fundamental and double frequencies of modulation. Photoresponse voltage is then studied as a function of constant-phase-shift voltages equal to 90, 50 and 10 V at the fundamental and double frequencies of modulation.
