Design of optimal pulses for pulse amplitude modulation systems including timing jitter
Abstract
For PAM systems the optimal pulse shape is calculated. Assumptions are the existence of timing jitter, bandlimited transmission, and additive noise. For optimization the mean square error criterion is used. Also optimized is the transfer function of the receiving filter. Finally, rules are given for the optimal transmission bandwidth.
