8000-11000 Å Spectra of Emission-Line Galaxies with Infrared Excesses
Abstract
The only emissions detected at 230 A/mm in the region from 8000 to 11,000 A are due to forbidden S III at 9069 and 9532 A. These lines appear in Seyfert class 2 galaxies, the irregular galaxy M82, the dwarf emission galaxy He 2-10, and H II-region galaxies; i.e., in extragalactic objects whose IR continuum is believed to be due to thermal reradiation by dust.
