A linear programming approach to the optimal assignment of component nominal values and tolerances
Abstract
A new linear programming technique is proposed for the optimal assignment of component nominal values and tolerances for mass-produced electric circuits. The technique leads to a reduction in the number of circuit analyses required. The approach is based on the consideration that the cost of mass-produced circuits can be assumed to equal, except for a constant, that of their components. The cost can thus be expressed as a sum of terms which are each a function of only one variable, i.e., the tolerance of the corresponding component.
