New emission peculiar and interacting galaxies of the southern sky.
Abstract
A list of 37 peculiar southern galaxies comprising 28 systems and exhibiting H-alpha, H-beta, and forbidden O III emission in their spectra is presented. The galaxies were observed over the spectral range from 3700 to 7500 A with a dispersion of 284 A/mm. Data are provided concerning the positions and radial velocities of the galaxies, the maximum apparent diameters of the systems, and the maximum apparent diameters of individual components. Peculiar morphological features of the galaxies are described, and visual estimates are given for the relative intensities of the main spectral lines observed. It is noted that these emission-line galaxies include two class 2 Seyferts, a giant spiral with diffuse arms, two systems of two interacting dwarf galaxies in a common envelope, a system of three interacting galaxies in a common envelope, a binary spiral system, and several barred spirals.
