On the nature of galaxies with UV continuum having broad emission lines.
Abstract
The morphology, the spectral and color characteristics and the luminosities of galaxies with broad emission lines are discussed. The latter are divided into two types, according to the profiles of nebular lines and the character of energy distribution in the continuum on one hand and the degree of radiation concentration towards the center of the galaxy on the other. The great similarity of spectral-color characteristics, morphology and luminosities of galaxies with broad emission lines and QSO's speaks in favor of their being completely related objects. The conclusion is made, that the observed differences between the galaxies considered and the quasi-stellar objects is conditioned by the great distances of the latter ones.
