Processes of the transformation of the lunar surface in the Le Monnier region studied using results of detailed investigations made by Lunokhod 2
Abstract
The paper discusses Lunokhod-2 data on geological-morphological changes which have occurred in the Le Monnier crater at the eastern part of Mare Serenitatis. The basic objective of the study was to examine the region of transition from mare formations to highland formations. It is found that, in the postmare period, the exogeneous reworking of the lunar surface was conditioned by two main factors: meteoritic impacts and gravitational downslope movement of regolith.
