Basic petrochemical features of lunar rocks from highlands and maria
Abstract
The paper discusses the results of the petrochemical analysis of the composition of magmatic rocks from highlands and maria. The study reviewed 500 analyses of proto-magmatic rocks or those that are nearly so, in an effort to investigate the differentiation of lunar magmas. Particular attention is given to the basaltic succession. It is shown, that within the An-Fo-SiO2 diagram, certain parts of the main basaltic succession coincide with preperitectic, peritectic and postperitectic regions on the boundary of olivine and pyroxene fields and with the cotectic region of pyroxene-anorthite fields.
