Comparisons of qualitative and quantitative image analysis
Abstract
Qualitative and quantitative data and information may be obtained in the analysis of remote sensor images. Qualitative image analysis is related to the distinction or discrimination between materials or phenomena. Quantitative analysis involves the measurement of image properties and the use of probabilistic statements, such as error rates, associated with identification. Image analysis procedures are considered along with image format types, aspects of preprocessing, approaches of feature extraction, decision and classification, classification output, the verification of results, and questions concerning the effective sensing of information of value.
