NBS interagency transducer project
Abstract
Concluding efforts related to the development of a test method for evaluating the effects of short-duration, thermal radiant-energy transients pressure-transducer response are described. The method consists of monitoring pressure-transducer output (zero shift with the transducer at atmospheric pressures) as the transducer is exposed to radiation resulting from the ignition of a photographic flashbulb or from the discharge of an electronic flash. Thermal energy pulses as great as 0.1 J/square centimeters, with durations of about 6 ms, were generated using an electronic flash; pulses of up to 2.2 J/square centimeters, with durations of about 37 ms, were generated using No. 22 flashbulbs.
