Pershing II captive flight test program
Abstract
Evaluation and demonstration tests for the Pershing II in captive flight are reported. The missile was carried on both rotor-wing and fixed-wing flying test beds, over several contrasting impact area terrains. An interchangeable missile pod that can be fitted mid-wing on a fixed-wing aircraft or on a rotor-wing platform was devised. Airborne system interfaces, flight profiles, position measurement system, and the terminal guidance system (utilizing PII radar correlation) are described. A 'ground reflight' system for data reconstitution makes it possible to reduce the number of flight operations required to prove system performance.
