Performance characteristics of telemetry transmission systems
Abstract
The design of telemetry transmission systems encompasses many considerations. It is basically a communications system designed for a specific purpose. In all communications systems the signal-to-noise ratio on the system output is of prime concern which is determined, to some degree, by all components in the system. The salient characteristics of telemetry ground station components are discussed including the use of polarization diversity to greatly enhance the probability of reliable data transmission. A simplified presentation of the characteristics of FM signals and the performance of FM system components under ideal and adverse conditions is also presented.
