Augmentation of condensation heat transfer with in-line static mixers
Abstract
Work on techniques and applications of augmentation of condensation heat transfer is reviewed, with a description of an experiment on refrigerant-113 in long horizontal tubes with/without static inline mixer inserts. Effects of six static mixer arrangements on heat transfer and pressure drop were tested. Successful augmentation of condensation heat transfer under the experimental conditions is reported. Augmentation via surface vibration, fluid vibration, or application of electrostatic fields, using surface roughness, extended surfaces, or displaced promoters, and generation of swirl flow by means of coiled wires, spiral fins, coiled tubes, and twisted tapes, are mentioned, along with possible application of condensation heat transfer augmentation to tap ocean thermal power.
