Large time bandwidth synchronization preambles
Abstract
The report presents the results of the Large Time Bandwidth Synchronization Preamble Program which developed a technique for detecting large time-bandwidth synchronization preambles in Time Division Multiple Access (TDMA) systems. The preamble detector provides synchronization preambles on a burst by burst basis in the presence of a large doppler frequency shift and in the presence of sophisticated jammers. A baseline preamble waveform and preamble detector which meets the stated objectives was developed. The chosen approach used a combination of predetection correlation and post-detection correlation to provide the desired detection characteristics with minimum hardware. A breadboard test model was built, and a production model configuration costing less than $2K was developed. The baseline concept embodied a compromise between tried and proven hardware and relatively undeveloped new devices to achieve a full 800 chip correlation with an addressing function.
