Surface wave chirp transform correlator, phase 1
Abstract
The feasibility of developing a surface wave chirp transform correlator (CTC) is evaluated. A comprehensive characterization of chirp transform (CT) signal processing is presented. A computer model for simulating CT processors is described, with numerous examples included. Error sensitivities and critical development risks to CTC development are evaluated. A hardware implementation is proposed which utilizes large TB product surface wave RAC filters. Signal to noise ratio and dynamic range of this implementation are projected. It is concluded that the development of a CTC for compressing waveforms up to 60 microseconds long, with up to 60 MHz bandwidth is feasible based on presently available technology.
