The Pitot tube in MFD flows
Abstract
The feasibility of using Pitot tubes in MFD flows is examined. Studies of the electromagnetic effects on the probe reading are reported for several special MFD flows accessible to analysis and experiment. The Hall effect, the electrical conductivity of, and the heat transfer to the probe are also discussed. For the practically most important case, a scheme to find higher order solutions from the existing first-order solution for incompressible flow is given and the first order theory extended to subsonic compressible flows. A generally valid experimental method to eliminate the electromagnetic probe errors is tested and proposed.
