Waves and jets
Abstract
Consider a gas-particle mixture that is in a state of steady flow. Any change of the conditions at some point then is signaled to other points by pressure waves which produce the necessary adjustment of the flow to the changed conditions. Three types of pressure waves are considered: shock waves, large-amplitude waves and sound waves. The analysis and properties of these types of waves are discussed. Penetration of a jet into a cross flow is also discussed.
