ECAS MHD system studies
Abstract
Under the Energy Conversion Alternatives Study (ECAS), performed for the NASA Lewis Research Center, the National Science Foundation, the Energy Research and Development Administration and the Office of Management and Budget, Westinghouse considered three basic MHD systems: open cycle, closed cycle nonequilibrium and liquid metal. The object of the study was to develop a data base to facilitate decision making in the areas of energy research and technology and to provide an estimate of the development and operating costs and the probability of success of each concept resulting in a commercially viable power plant.
