Charge transfer devices and signal processing applications
Abstract
This paper presents a unified treatment of the physical operation of MOS bucket brigade devices, surface charge-coupled devices and bulk charge-coupled devices. Attention is paid to the charge transport mechanisms which govern the CTD performance: thermal diffusion, self-induced drift and fringing field drift. Operating limitations and some experimental results are discussed. The various potential applications in the field of signal processing such as analog time delay, time-axis conversion, multiplexing and filtering are described.
