Electronic processing of optical anemometer signals
Abstract
Results are presented of research and development studies on electronic processing of optical anemometer signals as related to frequency analysis, frequency tracking demodulation, fixed gate frequency counting, and period timing with amplitude discrimination. Major merits of these methods are assessed and further developmental suggestions are made. Difficulties encountered in the development of the individual components of a frequency-locked loop are explained, and a phase-locked loop tracker is described. Major noise contributions to an optical anemometer signal are summarized, and different origins of frequency broadening are discussed.
