Energy and the developing countries
Abstract
Energy use in developing countries is discussed with attention given to the overall situation and the implications of increased energy use in the future. The problem of providing power in rural areas is considered taking account of energy resources and conversion. Some specific examples of small power plants in developing countries are described including a simple vertical axis Savonius rotor windmill for wind power generation in Zambia, flat plate solar collectors for water heating in Zambia, and the use of internal combustion liquid piston engines in solar heating systems.
