Nonlinear effects in the emission of interstellar molecules
Abstract
The effect of depolarizing collisions and interference of molecular states on the emission parameters of astrophysical OH masers (intensity, polarization and spectral-line shape) is considered. It is shown, in particular, that during the interaction between the saturated radiation of the principal lines and the satellite lines, sharp interference dips of the Raman type appear on the satellite amplification contour, the widths and amplitudes of which increase in proportion to amplification. Circular polarization of isolated satellites is interpreted as being due to the effect of shock broadening.
