The calculation of fields and forces in linear motors
Abstract
The numerical solution procedure reported, which was developed for the calculation of fields and forces in a linear motor, can also be used for other problems than the one for which it was originally designed. The computational model used in the procedure is exclusively based on geometrical design data and material characteristics. Attention is given to details concerning the model, the basic solution method, the transition conditions at the rail surface, the discretization process, the solution of the system of equations, the computational procedure in the case of given phase voltages, the consideration of field-dependent permeability, the evaluation computations, and a specific example for demonstrating the application of the described solution procedure.
