Flow patterns and pressure drop in horizontal two-phase pipe flow
Abstract
Two phase flow patterns in pipes were classified as separated, intermittant, annular, and homogeneous. Improved correlations for the flow pattern transactions defined by classification were determined. A generalized flow pattern map is proposed. The generalized flow pattern map was used to segregate two phase pressure drop data according to flow pattern. It was found that the Lockhart-Martinelli correlation fit the data in the intermittant and annular regions while the Hoogendorm correlation fit the separated region. A modified, homogeneous approach provided best agreement in the homogeneous region.
