Nonlinearity of traveling wave tubes
Abstract
The amplitude and phase nonlinearities of the Travelling Wave Tube Amplifier (TWTA) and their effects on signals (intermodulation products, AM/PM conversion, crosstalk) are discussed. The measure of TWTA characteristics, their mathematical representation by polynomials and a theoretical analysis gave the values of intermodulation products in the case of two unmodulated carriers. A program for computer simulation of TWTA nonlinearities was defined, and the signal to noise ratio of a communication channel was computed. Nonlinearities of TWTA with different delay time structures and linearization methods were compared.
