The way of two-star-instruments to modern star-trackers
Abstract
The historical evolution of stellar instruments for celestial navigation is reviewed. Attention is given to the Hemispherium Nauticum invented in 1581, to two-star instruments that could be named 'reversed planetariums', and to celestial-inertial platforms for space navigation, including spacecraft attitude control.
