50 years of X-ray straingaging - Its potentialities and current problems
Abstract
The article reviews international progress in the main areas of application and development of X-ray straingaging. X-ray measurements of stressed state, development of various methods (Laue, Debye-Scherrer for polycrystalline materials and for specular reflection, normal incidence, double-exposure and single-exposure), factors influencing straingaging interpretations of X-ray diffractograms (elastic anisotropy, microscopic stresses), modernization of straingaging instrumentation, and macroscopic techniques are dealt with. Stress-strain relationships in composite materials with anisotropic randomly oriented crystals, relationships between overstressing and mechanical properties, interpretation of lattice deformations, and nondestructive testing are examined among current problems.
