Measurements of auroral X-rays and electric fields co-ordinated with the scientific programme of the geostationary satellite ATS-6
Abstract
Auroral X-rays and electric fields were measured with balloon-borne instruments between northern Scandinavia and eastern Greenland in June and July 1975. A total of twenty balloon flights were performed that were coordinated with the scientific programme of the geostationary satellite ATS-6 and with other balloon programmes. The measurements were intended for the investigation of dynamical processes in the magnetosphere, especially those involving the distribution of energetic electrons and electric fields. The present report summarises the organization of this project. It contains descriptions of the payloads, and information on the performance of the balloon flights. The periods of data reception are listed also in order to inform other groups possibly interested in cooperation.
