Rank decision rules for diversity signal reception
Abstract
Rank decision rules are derived for diversity reception (multichannel reception with simultaneous detection and classification) of signals in the absence of complete a priori information on the parameters of the channels, the signals, and the noise. Serving as the initial sample are independent sets of readings of the envelopes in the channels, on the basis of which are formed rank statistics for obtaining a decision rule. The noise is not necessarily Gaussian and additive. An asymptotic method is used to establish asymptotic equivalence of test statistics. The reception rule obtained is asymptotically optimal and equivalent in the limit to the likelihood ratio rule.
