Optical modeling of radio-astronomical observations with antenna systems of complex aperture shape
Abstract
An optical arrangement is described which enables modeling of radio-astronomical observations, carried out with antenna systems having complex aperture, of radio emission sources of arbitrary structure. Observations made with variable-profile antennas, when modeled on this arrangement, undergo a further mathematical procedure of image cleaning. Examples illustrate the effectiveness of the cleaning procedure in improving two-dimensional images of sources obtained through variable-profile antennas at large angles of elevation under various limitations on the structure of emitting regions.
