Experimental characteristics of fluctuations in radio emission of clouds at millimeter wavelengths
Abstract
Results of observations of fluctuations in the radio-frequency emission of clouds at wavelengths 3.25 and 4.1 mm, carried out in July 1973 with the NIRFI institute's RT-25x2 radio telescope near Gor'kii, are reported. Structural functions of the fluctuations are constructed for solid overcast and for sky with breaks in the cloud cover. The antenna was pointed to zenith and a radiometer of about 1 K sensitivity was employed. The brightness temperature of the cloud-free atmosphere is reported for the two wavelengths. Records of the fluctuations, and the structural functions plotted, are reproduced.
