Factors influencing noise interference in a radio telescope multireflector antenna
Abstract
Shapes of waves reflected by a small reflector, and emitted by structural elements or the feed, are analyzed, and a quantitative estimate is given of reflection coefficients of the Lebedev Institute (FIAN) RT-22 two-reflector antenna. Formulas are derived for the reflection coefficient of the noise signal emitted by the feed and backscattered by structural elements. Parasitic effects observed with a radio spectrometer in the RT-22 system are accounted for in terms of the backscatter noise interference. Ways of minimizing backscatter and its effects are proposed.
