On the time variations of some characteristics of pulses propagating in an unbounded scattering medium
Abstract
The equation of radiative transfer is used to derive a system of equations for the spatial moments of pulses scattered by the electron density fluctuations of a steady homogeneous cold plasma. The spatial moments describe some of the volume-averaged characteristics of the pulses: energy spectrum, the radius vector of the center of gravity and the root-mean-square pulse broadening. Scattering is considered for the cases of small scale and large scale electron density fluctuations.
