Effect of lateral inflow on steady open channel flows
Abstract
The energy loss in the junction, and the momentum and energy balance in the nonuniform region in an open channel due to the effect of the lateral inflow were studied. By a critical examination of one-dimensional open channel flow analysis, it was shown that a single momentum or energy equation as widely used in the past is not sufficient to explain certain anomalies in the nonuniform flow region. The streamwise variation of momentum and energy correction factors that are determined from the two methods discussed above is shown to be a pertinent parameter for the nonuniform flow field.
