Natural convection induced by a horizontal laser beam
Abstract
The steady state natural convective flow above a horizontal laser beam has been modeled and solved on an approximate basis. The governing boundary layer equations for the plume flow above the laser beam were simplified using similarity. Three dimensional convective and transverse diffusive effects are included. Both integral and numerical solutions were obtained with the approximation that all dependent variables, associated with the plume flow, approach their asymptotic values at the edge of the plume. Solutions are presented as a function of the Prandtl number.
