Investigation of boundary layer-like flows with pressure gradients at high free stream Mach numbers
Abstract
The applicability of numerical methods for the solution of systems of partial differential equations, the mathematical difficulties and the demands on flow physics which arise due to the use of these solution methods are discussed by means of theoretical investigations of boundary layer-like flows with pressure gradients in main-stream direction and cross-flow direction. The flow fields investigated are hypersonic-slip flow boundary layers and structures of oblique shock waves and their intersections. In both cases a mixed initial value-boundary value problem has to be solved which is described by governing equations derived from the Navier-Stokes equations. Results of calculations are presented, as well as comparisons with experimental data.
