Insulation contamination on very high voltage electrical transmission lines
Abstract
Methods of approach are developed by use of the introduced geometrical models. Relationships between the conductivity of the pollution layer and insulation flashover are derived. On the basis of mathematical models of difference and differential equations, formulae for the voltage distribution on insulator chains are derived under different assumptions of stray capacitance distributions on these insulators. It is demonstrated that, by application of stability theory concepts to the problem of insulator flashover, valuable insights and quantitative relations can be gained, as well as adaptive control possibilities are revealed.
