Definition of the Low Mass Rr's Stars Through Photoelectric Radial Velocities and High Time Resolution UVBY Photometry.
Abstract
A rapid scanning radial velocity spectrometer of the griffin type was designed and constructed specifically for obtaining high time resolution velocity curves for the RRs stars. Evidence for rapid variations in the line strengths for AI Vel, V703 Sco, and RS Gru was given particular attention. Power spectra of the light curves for V703 Sco and SX Phe show no periodic components or increased power at up to 4 minute periods which would match the observed line strength variations. The light curves of both doubly and singly period variables are smooth. Photometry in the uvby system was obtained for CY Aqr and DY Peg, and the variations of the physical parameters determined over the light cycle through model atmosphere calibrations of the color indices. Data obtained for CY Aqr, DY Peg, AI Vel, V703 Sco, and RS Gru result in a clear mass separation of the Pop II RRs (AI Vel) stars from the Pop I RRs (Delta Sct) stars.
