The Metal Abundance of Population II Systems of the Galaxy.
Abstract
A new broad-band photometric system, C, M, T1, T2, was developed to obtain accurate temperatures and abundance parameters for G and K giants. The calibration of the system was determined from observations of G and K stars. Theoretical model atmosphere colors were also computed and used to calibrate the C, M, T1, T2, system for stars with 4,000 K Teff 8,000 K, -5.0 Mv 3.0, and 1.0Z0 Z .001Z0. Individual giants in several globular clusters and Draco were observed. Draco was found to be metal poorer than M 92. NGC 4147 was found to be either CN enriched or slightly older than M 92.
